Every Lawyer Has a Professional Responsibility to Render Public Interest Legal Service

Legal Services of New Jersey (LSNJ) wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the many lawyers, law firms, corporations and businesses that have supported our efforts during this most difficult year to help meet the various legal needs of those otherwise unable to afford legal assistance. It is through your generosity in volunteering time, talent, energy and expertise that LSNJ and, indeed, the larger statewide New Jersey Legal Services network, has been better able address the “justice gap” between those who require, and those who receive, legal help.

That gap has widened because of COVID-19; the ABA has adopted as its theme for this year’s pro bono week, “Moving Forward in a Post-Pandemic World”. So particularly praiseworthy is the level of pro bono assistance provided to our clients despite the threats and demands posed by the coronavirus. We thank you for that special effort during this time of crisis.

But the time of crisis is not over for so many in New Jersey. Their legal problems continue and so, too, does the professional responsibility of RPC 6.1 to assist them. Many have already committed to creating a more fair and just society through providing pro bono legal assistance. We invite those of you who have not yet done so to join with them, LSNJ, and the Legal Services network in making that same commitment.

Please visit the statewide LSNJ-hosted pro bono website, www.probononj.org, and the Legal Services of New Jersey website, www.lsnj.org, for more information. For questions, email [email protected].

Pro bono offers continuing opportunities to do well and do good in ways that are professionally and personally rewarding. Try it, you’ll like it. Happy Pro Bono Week!
